Development on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel has just taken another big step forward, as the game has officially entered pre-production and it has a new title: Cyberpunk 2.
“Several weeks ago, the CDPR team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase. As a result, Cyberpunk 2–previously known under the codename Project Orion–has progressed to pre-production,” CDPR said in its Q1 2025 earnings report.
Extremely early development on Cyberpunk 2 began several years ago, and pre-production generally means that more pieces need to fall in place–from concept art to staffing and multiple other crucial factors–before work kicks off in earnest.
