Kojima began his journey in the game industry in the 1980s at Konami, where he quickly distinguished himself with innovative storytelling, giving games an almost cinematic approach. His breakthrough came with Metal Gear in 1987, one of the earliest stealth-based video games. This success led to the creation of the Metal Gear Solid series, which became one of the most critically acclaimed franchises in gaming history.
